Products Specifications

Φ10mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar

Overview

The Φ10mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is a cold-drawn titanium round bar combining the highest ductility of any industrial pure titanium grade with a practical mid-range diameter suited to a broad range of machined components. Manufactured from TA1 / ASTM Grade 1 (UNS R50250) with titanium content exceeding 99.5% and tightly restricted interstitial elements, it delivers superior corrosion resistance, complete non-magnetism, and outstanding biocompatibility as a versatile TA1 pure titanium rod.

Supplied in the cold-drawn bright condition with a standard length of 2000 mm, the Φ10mm diameter is an efficient feedstock for chemical anti-corrosion small fasteners, seawater desalination miniature fittings, non-magnetic detection instrument shafts, and general corrosion-proof machined parts, serving as a reliable corrosion resistant titanium rod for aggressive environments. Custom cut lengths are available to minimize material waste and machining time.

Material Specification and Chemical Composition

The Φ10mm TA1 titanium bar conforms to GB/T 2965-2023 and ASTM B348 for titanium and titanium alloy bars. Chemical composition is maintained to the following limits:

ElementTi (base)FeOCNHOther (total)
Requirement≥99.5%≤0.15%≤0.15%≤0.05%≤0.03%≤0.015%≤0.40%

The annealed microstructure features equiaxed alpha-phase grains in a hexagonal close-packed arrangement with minimal beta-phase at grain boundaries. The ultra-low interstitial element content ensures the highest plasticity and cold-forming capacity of the commercially pure titanium family.

Corrosion Resistance

The spontaneously regenerating TiO₂ passive oxide film provides Grade 1 titanium with corrosion immunity across a wide range of aggressive environments:

Excellent resistance: seawater and chloride-bearing solutions (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year, no pitting or crevice attack), nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid, other organic acids, dilute alkalis at room temperature, humid industrial atmospheres, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorites, food and pharmaceutical process media.

Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.

Applications of Φ10mm TA1 Titanium Bar

The Φ10mm diameter is a versatile stock size serving multiple industrial sectors:

  • Chemical anti-corrosion small fasteners — bolts, studs, nuts, and threaded rods for chemical process equipment, where standard stainless steel fasteners suffer from chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting.
  • Seawater desalination miniature fittings — valve stems, connector pins, sensor housings, and small-diameter piping accessories for reverse-osmosis and multi-stage flash desalination plants.
  • Non-magnetic detection instrument shafts — drive shafts, guide rods, and actuator components for MRI-compatible medical devices, magnetic survey equipment, and nuclear magnetic resonance instrumentation.
  • Electrochemical cell components — electrode connectors, current-carrying rods, and support hardware for chlor-alkali cells, water electrolysers, and electroplating baths.
  • Food and pharmaceutical equipment parts — mixer shafts, scraper bars, product-contact fittings, and clean-in-place (CIP) compatible hardware meeting FDA and USP Class VI requirements.

Fabrication Guidelines

Turning and machining: Use titanium-grade carbide inserts (uncoated or PVD-TiAlN coated), low cutting speed (20–30 m/min), high feed rate, positive rake geometry, and copious non-chlorinated coolant. The Φ10mm cold-drawn bar machines well with sharp tooling, avoiding built-up edge.

Cold forming: Excellent — the bar can be headed for bolt blanks, bent, and cold-forged with low risk of cracking. Intermediate annealing at 670–720 °C relieves work hardening.

Welding: GTAW (TIG) using ER Ti-1 filler wire with full argon shielding. The Φ10mm diameter welds readily; joint corrosion resistance and ductility approach base metal values.

Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon protection. Titanium’s reactivity with atmospheric gases above 400 °C mandates fully inert working conditions.

Annealing: 670–720 °C, 30–120 min, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas. No quench-hardening effect exists for commercially pure titanium.

Key Usage Precautions

  • Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit any contact with hydrofluoric acid and fluoride solutions; rapid oxide film breakdown leads to severe corrosion.
  • High-temperature processing: Inert gas (argon) shielding is mandatory above 400 °C; atmospheric contamination causes embrittlement and loss of ductility.
  • Hydrogen control: For critical applications, specify low-hydrogen heats and avoid hydrogen pick-up during acid cleaning or welding.
  • Galvanic isolation: When assembling with carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminium, use PTFE or nylon insulating washers, sleeves, or gaskets at all contact points.
  • Cutting fluids: Chlorine-free water-soluble coolants only; chlorinated and sulphurised cutting oils can initiate stress-corrosion cracking in titanium at elevated machining temperatures.
