Φ30mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar
Overview
The Φ30mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is a hot-rolled, precision-finished titanium round bar that bridges the transition from cold-drawn fine bar to the hot-rolled bar category. Manufactured from industrial pure Grade 1 titanium (TA1 per GB/T 3620.1, ASTM Grade 1 / UNS R50250) with titanium content above 99.5% and the lowest interstitial impurity levels of any commercial pure grade, this bar delivers the corrosion immunity, lightweight construction, and reliable mechanical properties required for industrial rotating and structural components.
Stocked in 1000 mm and 2000 mm lengths with a hot-rolled finished surface, the Φ30mm diameter bar is the material of choice for industrial anti-corrosion connecting shafts, electroplating anode bases, deep-sea exploration equipment components, and general chemical equipment structural parts where the combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and ease of fabrication is essential, making this corrosion resistant titanium rod a standard choice for industrial chemical service.
Material Specification and Chemical Composition
The Φ30mm TA1 pure titanium bar conforms to ASTM B348 and GB/T 2965 for titanium and titanium alloy bars. Chemical composition is maintained within the following tight limits:
| Element | Ti (base) | Fe | O | C | N | H | Other (total) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Requirement | ≥99.5% | ≤0.15% | ≤0.15% | ≤0.05% | ≤0.03% | ≤0.015% | ≤0.40% |
The annealed microstructure consists of equiaxed alpha-phase grains in a hexagonal close-packed structure with controlled grain size throughout the cross-section. The hot-rolled and finished processing route ensures homogeneous mechanical properties from surface to centre of the Φ30mm bar.

Corrosion Resistance
The self-regenerating TiO₂ passive oxide film provides Grade 1 titanium with outstanding corrosion resistance across a broad spectrum of aggressive chemical environments:
Excellent resistance: seawater and marine atmospheres, chloride-rich solutions (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year, no pitting, no crevice attack), nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid and other organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial air, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food and pharmaceutical process media.
Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.
Applications of Φ30mm TA1 Titanium Bar
The Φ30mm TA1 pure titanium rod enters the hot-rolled bar size range, suited for industrial rotating equipment and structural components:
- Industrial anti-corrosion connecting shafts — pump shafts, coupling shafts, drive shafts, and connector spindles for chemical process pumps, acid-transfer pumps, and seawater circulation pumps where stainless steel shafts experience rapid chloride pitting.
- Electroplating anode bases — anode support rods, current-distribution bars, and anode basket structural members for electroplating baths, electro-winning cells, and electrolytic refining operations where corrosion immunity in acidic, chloride-containing electrolytes is critical.
- Deep-sea exploration equipment components — structural rods, actuator components, sensor housings, and instrument mounting hardware for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and deep-sea sampling equipment.
- Chemical reactor internals — baffle supports, agitator shaft extensions, thermowell protection tubes, and structural hardware for batch and continuous chemical reactors.
- Marine structural parts — clevis pins, hinge pins, structural connectors, and mounting hardware for seawater-exposed marine infrastructure, offshore platforms, and coastal industrial installations.
Fabrication Guidelines
Machining: Use titanium-specific carbide tooling at low cutting speed (20–30 m/min), high feed rate, positive rake angle, and abundant non-chlorinated water-soluble coolant. Sharp tooling prevents work hardening and built-up edge.
Cold forming: Good formability — the Φ30mm bar can be bent and forged with appropriate tooling. Intermediate annealing (670–720 °C) relieves work hardening after heavy deformation.
Welding: GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler wire and full argon shielding. The larger cross-section may require preheating to 150–200 °C for thicker welds. Weld integrity approaches parent metal properties when proper shielding is maintained.
Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon atmosphere. The Φ30mm diameter requires thorough through-heating and fully inert conditions throughout the hot-working cycle.
Annealing: 670–720 °C, 30–120 min soak, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas. No quench-hardening response; annealing restores full ductility after cold work or machining.
Grade Selection: TA1 vs TA2
| Parameter | TA1 (Grade 1) — this product | TA2 (Grade 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Purity / impurity level | Highest purity, lowest O & Fe | Moderate impurities |
| Tensile strength (Rm) | ≥370 MPa | ≥400 MPa |
| Elongation (δ₅) | ≥20% — best ductility | ≥18% |
| Weldability | Excellent — best of all CP grades | Very good |
| Primary applications | Industrial shafts, anode bases, deep-sea equipment, chemical reactor internals | General chemical equipment, structural parts, standard fasteners |
| Cost | Slightly higher | More cost-effective |
Key Usage Precautions
- Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit any exposure to HF or fluoride-bearing solutions; passive film breakdown leads to rapid through-wall corrosion.
- High-temperature processing: All processes above 400 °C require inert gas (argon) shielding; oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen contamination causes irreversible embrittlement.
- Hydrogen embrittlement: Control hydrogen levels in torque-transmitting components; hydrogen-induced delayed cracking may occur under cyclic or sustained loads.
- Galvanic corrosion: Electrically isolate titanium components from dissimilar metals (carbon steels, aluminium alloys, copper-based alloys) to prevent accelerated corrosion of the less-noble material.
- Cutting fluid: Non-chlorinated water-soluble coolants only; halogenated and sulphur-bearing cutting oils are strictly prohibited.
