Products Specifications

Φ16mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar

Overview

The Φ16mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is a polished bright-finished titanium round bar manufactured from low-temperature-certified Grade 1 titanium (TA1 per GB/T 3620.1, ASTM Grade 1 / UNS R50250). With titanium content above 99.5% and the most rigorously controlled interstitial impurities of any commercial pure titanium grade, this bar combines outstanding cryogenic toughness with the highest ductility in its class.

Supplied as a polished bright bar in a standard 2000 mm stock length with chamfer processing available, the Φ16mm diameter is specifically selected for medical joint accessory components, seawater desalination structural parts, and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment components. The low-temperature certified material ensures reliable performance in cryogenic and sub-zero service conditions, making this a trusted medical titanium bar for implant-adjacent applications.

Material Specification and Chemical Composition

The Φ16mm TA1 titanium bar conforms to GB/T 2965 and ASTM B348, with the raw material qualified for low-temperature service. Chemical composition is tightly controlled:

ElementTi (base)FeOCNHOther (total)
Requirement≥99.5%≤0.15%≤0.15%≤0.05%≤0.03%≤0.015%≤0.40%

The annealed microstructure features equiaxed alpha-phase grains with minimal beta-phase content. The low interstitial element levels, combined with the inherently tough hexagonal close-packed crystal structure, ensure no ductile-to-brittle transition even at temperatures approaching absolute zero (−253 °C).

Corrosion Resistance

The self-regenerating TiO₂ passive film provides robust protection against an extensive range of corrosive environments:

Excellent resistance: seawater and marine atmospheres (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year, no pitting or crevice corrosion), chloride brines, nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid and organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial air, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food and pharmaceutical contact media.

Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.

Applications of Φ16mm TA1 Titanium Bar

The Φ16mm TA1 pure titanium rod is a practical intermediate size serving structural, medical, and environmental equipment applications:

  • Medical joint accessories — prosthetic joint components, surgical instrument handles, bone-fixation device parts, and implant-adjacent hardware manufactured to implant-grade quality standards with full traceability.
  • Seawater desalination structural parts — valve stems, connector rods, small pump shafts, and instrument mounting hardware for multi-effect distillation (MED) and reverse-osmosis (RO) desalination plants.
  • Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment — agitator shafts, spray nozzle holders, mist eliminator support rods, and structural connectors exposed to the acidic, chloride-rich slurry environment of wet FGD systems.
  • Chemical processing equipment — mixer shafts, baffle support rods, dip-pipe guides, and reactor internal components for acid-handling, solvent recovery, and chlorinated-process plants.
  • Electrolytic cell components — electrode support bars, anode rod assemblies, and cell-frame structural members for chlor-alkali membrane cells, electro-winning, and water electrolysis stacks.

Fabrication Guidelines

Machining: Use titanium-grade carbide tooling at low cutting speeds (20–30 m/min), positive rake angle, and high-volume water-soluble coolant. Sharp tools are essential to avoid work hardening and built-up edge on the soft Grade 1 surface.

Cold forming: Excellent formability — the bar accepts bending, heading, and cold forging without difficulty. Annealing at 670–720 °C after heavy cold work restores full ductility.

Welding: GTAW (TIG) using ER Ti-1 filler wire; complete argon shielding (front and back) mandatory. Weld corrosion resistance and ductility match parent metal.

Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon atmosphere only. Air exposure above 400 °C leads to rapid oxygen and nitrogen pick-up and surface embrittlement.

Annealing: 670–720 °C, 30–120 min soak, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas. No quench-hardening response; annealing relieves stress and restores plasticity.

Key Usage Precautions

  • Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit any contact with HF or fluoride-bearing solutions; catastrophic corrosion results from passive film breakdown.
  • High-temperature processing: All thermal processes above 400 °C must be performed under argon or vacuum; atmospheric gases cause irreversible embrittlement.
  • Hydrogen embrittlement: Maintain strict control of hydrogen content; avoid hydrogen-containing atmospheres during welding, heat treatment, and acid pickling.
  • Galvanic isolation: Electrically insulate titanium components from carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium in multi-material assemblies.
  • Machining fluid: Chlorine-free water-soluble coolant only; halogenated or sulphurised cutting fluids are prohibited for titanium machining.
