Products Specifications

Φ40mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar

Overview

The Φ40mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is a peeled bright-finished solid titanium round bar that enters the medium-to-large diameter range for heavy-duty corrosion-resistant components. Manufactured from industrial pure Grade 1 titanium (TA1 per GB/T 3620.1, ASTM Grade 1 / UNS R50250) with titanium content exceeding 99.5% and the most stringently controlled interstitial impurities, this bar delivers the ultimate combination of corrosion immunity, ductility, and lightweight strength for large-scale industrial equipment.

Stocked in a standard 3000 mm length with a peeled bright surface finish and stable dimensional tolerance, the Φ40mm diameter bar is the preferred material for large chemical anti-corrosion fixtures, seawater pipeline connectors, acid-base reactor shafts, and electrolytic cell structural components. The peeled finish provides a clean, defect-free surface ready for machining, welding, or direct installation, confirming this corrosion resistant titanium rod as a proven material for heavy-duty chemical and marine equipment.

Material Specification and Chemical Composition

The Φ40mm TA1 pure titanium bar conforms to GB/T 2965 and ASTM B348 for titanium and titanium alloy bars. Chemical composition is maintained within the following limits:

ElementTi (base)FeOCNHOther (total)
Requirement≥99.5%≤0.15%≤0.15%≤0.05%≤0.03%≤0.015%≤0.40%

The annealed microstructure consists of equiaxed alpha-phase in a hexagonal close-packed arrangement with uniform grain size throughout the cross-section. The exceptionally low oxygen and iron content ensures the highest ductility and weldability of all commercially pure titanium grades, even at this larger diameter.

Corrosion Resistance

The spontaneously regenerating TiO₂ passive oxide film provides comprehensive corrosion protection in aggressive industrial environments:

Excellent resistance: seawater and marine atmospheres, chloride brines (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year, no pitting, no crevice corrosion), nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid and organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial air, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food and pharmaceutical contact media.

Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.

Applications of Φ40mm TA1 Titanium Bar

The Φ40mm TA1 pure titanium rod is a heavy-duty size for large-scale chemical, marine, and electrochemical equipment:

  • Large chemical anti-corrosion fixtures — vessel support lugs, flange adaptors, tie-rods, structural brackets, and mounting hardware for acid storage tanks, chemical reactors, and solvent-handling equipment where carbon steel and stainless steel suffer rapid corrosion.
  • Seawater pipeline connectors — flanged connector stubs, spool-piece rods, valve-body blanks, and large-diameter coupling components for seawater intake and discharge piping systems in desalination plants, coastal power stations, and offshore platforms.
  • Acid-base reactor shafts — large-diameter agitator shafts, mixer drive spindles, and impeller hub blanks for reactors handling concentrated acids, alkaline solutions, and corrosive chemical intermediates at elevated temperatures.
  • Electrolytic cell structural components — support framework members, tie-bars, electrode-mounting bars, and cell-body structural components for industrial chlor-alkali membrane cells, water electrolysis stacks, and electro-winning tank houses.
  • Marine structural hardware — large clevis pins, king-pin blanks, structural connector rods, and heavy-duty hinge components for shipboard equipment, dockside machinery, and offshore oil and gas infrastructure.

Fabrication Guidelines

Machining: Use titanium-specific carbide inserts at low cutting speed (20–30 m/min), heavy feed, positive rake, and high-volume non-chlorinated coolant. The larger cross-section and soft TA1 alloy require rigid machine setups to avoid chatter.

Welding: GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler wire; preheating to 150–200 °C recommended for the larger cross-section. Full argon shielding of weld face, root, and adjacent surfaces is mandatory.

Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon protection. The Φ40mm diameter requires thorough through-heating to working temperature; ensure fully inert conditions throughout the entire thermal cycle.

Annealing: 670–720 °C, 60–120 min soak, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas atmosphere. Commercially pure titanium has no quench-hardening response.

Cold forming: Feasible for light bending applications; the larger diameter requires heavier tooling but benefits from the excellent ductility of Grade 1 titanium.

Key Usage Precautions

  • Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit any contact with hydrofluoric acid and fluoride-containing solutions; oxide film failure leads to catastrophic corrosion.
  • High-temperature processing: All thermal operations above 400 °C require argon or vacuum protection; uncontrolled atmospheric exposure causes surface and bulk embrittlement.
  • Hydrogen embrittlement: Strict hydrogen control for stressed components; hydrogen pick-up during welding, pickling, or cathodic charging can lead to delayed failure under load.
  • Galvanic corrosion: Electrically insulate titanium from dissimilar metals (carbon steels, stainless steels, copper alloys) using PTFE or nylon gaskets and sleeves.
  • Cutting fluid: Chlorine-free water-based coolant only; halogenated and sulphur-bearing cutting oils are strictly prohibited.
