Products Specifications
Φ50mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar
Overview
The Φ50mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is a precision-finished, ultrasonically inspected large-diameter solid titanium round bar manufactured to forged-bar specifications. Produced from industrial pure Grade 1 titanium (TA1 per GB/T 3620.1, ASTM Grade 1 / UNS R50250) with titanium content above 99.5%, this bar represents the largest standard stock diameter in the TA1 product line, offering the corrosion immunity, light weight, and reliable mechanical integrity required for heavy-duty industrial equipment.
Stocked in 2000 mm and 3000 mm lengths with ultrasonic inspection certification, the Φ50mm precision solid bar is the material of choice for heavy marine equipment main spindles, electrolytic cell support frameworks, anti-corrosion mould blanks, and large-scale chemical equipment structural components. The ultrasonic testing ensures internal soundness and freedom from defects for critical load-bearing applications, validating this corrosion resistant titanium rod for the most demanding marine and chemical service conditions.
Material Specification and Chemical Composition
The Φ50mm TA1 pure titanium bar conforms to ASTM B348 and GB/T 2965 for forged titanium bars, with the forged-bar processing route providing a refined, homogeneous grain structure throughout the large cross-section. Chemical composition is tightly controlled:
| Element | Ti (base) | Fe | O | C | N | H | Other (total) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Requirement | ≥99.5% | ≤0.15% | ≤0.15% | ≤0.05% | ≤0.03% | ≤0.015% | ≤0.40% |
The forged and annealed microstructure consists of well-distributed equiaxed alpha-phase grains with no remnant cast structure. The forging process breaks down the original ingot grain structure, producing a uniform, fine-grained microstructure that ensures consistent mechanical properties throughout the Φ50mm cross-section.

Corrosion Resistance
The self-regenerating TiO₂ passive oxide film provides Grade 1 titanium with enduring corrosion protection across the broadest range of aggressive environments:
Excellent resistance: seawater and marine environments (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year, no pitting, no crevice corrosion), chloride brines, nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid and other organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial atmospheres, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food and pharmaceutical media.
Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.
Applications of Φ50mm TA1 Titanium Bar
The Φ50mm TA1 pure titanium rod is the heavy-duty stock size for large-scale marine, electrochemical, and chemical equipment:
- Heavy marine equipment main spindles — propeller shaft forgings, stern-tube shaft blanks, rudder stock components, and large-diameter drive shafts for seawater-exposed marine propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
- Electrolytic cell support frameworks — primary structural members, support columns, cross-bracing bars, and electrode-mounting bars for industrial-scale electrolysis plants, chlor-alkali membrane cell rooms, and electro-winning production lines.
- Anti-corrosion mould blanks — mould base plates, die blanks, and tooling components for plastic injection moulds, compression moulds, and casting dies operating in corrosive process environments or requiring clean, contamination-free tooling surfaces.
- Chemical plant structural components — heavy-duty tie-rods, vessel support columns, reactor head bolts, flange-blank bars, and large-diameter structural connectors for chemical process plants, acid plants, and petrochemical facilities.
- Deep-sea and subsea equipment — structural shafts, connector rods, and load-bearing components for subsea wellheads, ROV structural frames, underwater tooling, and deep-ocean sensor arrays.
Fabrication Guidelines
Machining: Use titanium-grade carbide tooling at low cutting speeds (20–30 m/min), heavy feed, positive rake angle, and abundant non-chlorinated water-soluble coolant. The larger Φ50mm cross-section demands rigid machine tools and robust work-holding to prevent chatter.
Welding: GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler wire; preheating (150–200 °C) recommended for the large cross-section and thick-section welds. Full argon shielding of the weld pool, HAZ, and root side is absolutely essential to prevent interstitial contamination.
Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon. The Φ50mm starting diameter requires extended through-heating to ensure uniform working temperature; all surfaces must be continuously shielded from atmospheric contamination.
Annealing: 670–720 °C, 60–120 min soak, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas. For the larger cross-section, extended soak times ensure complete through-recrystallisation.
Cold forming: Limited for the Φ50mm diameter; hot forming is the preferred method for bending or shaping. The bar machines readily into finished components.
Grade Selection: TA1 vs TA2
| Parameter | TA1 (Grade 1) — this product | TA2 (Grade 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Purity / impurity level | Highest purity, lowest interstitials | Moderate impurity levels |
| Tensile strength (Rm) | ≥370 MPa | ≥400 MPa |
| Elongation (δ₅) | ≥20% — best ductility | ≥18% |
| Weldability | Superior — lowest contamination risk | Very good |
| Ultrasonic inspectability | Excellent — uniform grain structure | Good |
| Primary applications | Heavy marine spindles, electrolytic cell frames, mould blanks, chemical plant structural parts | General chemical equipment, standard large-diameter fittings, structural parts |
| Cost | Slightly higher | More cost-effective |
Key Usage Precautions
- Fluorine-containing media: Strictly prohibit contact with HF or any fluoride-bearing solution; passive oxide film failure results in rapid, catastrophic corrosion.
- High-temperature processing: All thermal processes above 400 °C require argon or vacuum shielding; atmospheric oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen cause severe embrittlement of the large cross-section.
- Hydrogen embrittlement: Critical for heavy load-bearing spindles and structural components; hydrogen content must be strictly controlled and verified to prevent delayed cracking under sustained or cyclic loading.
- Galvanic corrosion: Electrically isolate titanium components from all dissimilar metals (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper alloys) using non-metallic gaskets, sleeves, or coatings.
- Machining fluid: Non-chlorinated water-based coolant only; the large machining time for Φ50mm stock makes proper coolant selection critical — halogenated and sulphurised cutting oils are prohibited.
