Products Specifications

Φ12mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Bar

Overview

The Φ12mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium bar is an annealed bright-finished titanium rod that combines the outstanding ductility of industrial pure Grade 1 titanium with a diameter well-suited to small rotating shafts, pump components, and pharmaceutical equipment parts. Manufactured from TA1 / ASTM Grade 1 (UNS R50250), this bar contains titanium above 99.5% with the lowest interstitial element content of any commercially pure titanium grade, ensuring maximum plasticity and the best cold-forming response.

Stocked in lengths of 1000 mm and 3000 mm with an oxide-free annealed bright surface, the Φ12mm diameter is the material of choice for anti-corrosion pump shafts, food-grade and pharmaceutical machinery spare parts, small chemical stirrer mandrels, and marine equipment fittings where immunity to seawater corrosion is mandatory, establishing this corrosion resistant titanium rod as a first-choice material for aggressive chemical and marine service.

Material Specification and Chemical Composition

The Φ12mm TA1 pure titanium bar conforms to ASTM B348 and GB/T 2965 for titanium and titanium alloy bars. Chemical composition is strictly maintained:

ElementTi (base)FeOCNHOther (total)
Requirement≥99.5%≤0.15%≤0.15%≤0.05%≤0.03%≤0.015%≤0.40%

The fully recrystallized annealed microstructure consists of equiaxed alpha-phase grains, delivering the maximum ductility that characterises the TA1 grade. The defect-free bright surface is free from scaling, peeling, and oxidation — ready for direct machining without surface preparation.

Corrosion Resistance

The self-regenerating TiO₂ passive film ensures enduring corrosion protection in aggressive industrial environments:

Excellent resistance: seawater, salt spray, chloride-rich brines (corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year with zero pitting), nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid, organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial atmospheres, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food-grade and pharmaceutical process media.

Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.

Applications of Φ12mm TA1 Titanium Bar

The Φ12mm TA1 pure titanium rod is a practical size for rotating and structural components across multiple industries:

  • Anti-corrosion pump shafts — centrifugal pump shafts, magnetic drive pump rotors, and metering pump plungers for chemical transfer, seawater circulation, and acid handling duties where 316L shafts suffer rapid failure.
  • Food and pharmaceutical equipment parts — mixer shafts, scraper bars, product-contact guide rods, and sterile processing hardware compatible with CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (steam-in-place) regimes.
  • Small chemical stirrer mandrels — agitator shafts for laboratory and pilot-plant reactors, portable mixer drives, and chemical dosing equipment requiring complete immunity to process chemicals.
  • Marine equipment fittings — clevis pins, hinge pins, actuator rods, and small structural connectors for seawater-exposed marine hardware, offshore platforms, and coastal infrastructure.
  • Electrolyser and electrochemical components — electrode support rods, bus-bar connectors, and cell frame tie-bars in chlor-alkali, water electrolysis, and electroplating systems.

Fabrication Guidelines

Machining: Use titanium-grade carbide tooling, low cutting speeds, positive rake geometry, and high-flow coolant. The soft nature of Grade 1 demands sharp tools to prevent smearing and built-up edge.

Cold forming: Excellent — single-pass cold deformation is well tolerated due to the high ductility of TA1. Annealing at 670–720 °C restores full plasticity after heavy work hardening.

Welding: GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler wire; full argon shielding of both weld face and root is essential to prevent atmospheric contamination.

Hot working: 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon; oxygen and nitrogen absorption at elevated temperatures in air causes rapid surface hardening and embrittlement.

Annealing: 670–720 °C, 30–120 min, air cool, in vacuum or inert gas. Commercially pure titanium does not respond to quench hardening.

Key Usage Precautions

  • Fluorine-containing media: Avoid any contact with HF and fluoride-bearing solutions; oxide film dissolution causes rapid through-wall corrosion.
  • High-temperature protection: All processes above 400 °C require argon shielding; titanium is highly reactive with atmospheric oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.
  • Hydrogen embrittlement: Maintain strict hydrogen control for critical rotating components; hydrogen pick-up during processing can lead to delayed cracking under cyclic stress.
  • Galvanic corrosion: Electrically insulate titanium components from less-noble metals (carbon steels, aluminium, copper alloys) using non-conductive gaskets or sleeves.
  • Machining fluids: Use only chlorine-free water-based coolants; avoid halogenated and sulphur-bearing cutting oils at all times.
