3.0mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Sheet
Overview
The 3.0mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium sheet is a top-selling industrial titanium plate that exemplifies the balance between formability and structural performance. At 3.0 mm, the sheet crosses the threshold into the range used for heavy-duty anti-corrosion cladding, marine component fabrication, and precision engineering structures, while still fully supporting cold-press operations that would require annealing cycles in higher-strength grades. Produced in strict compliance with ASTM B265 and GB/T 3621-2007, the 3.0mm TA1 sheet is manufactured from commercially pure Grade 1 titanium (UNS R50250) with titanium content above 99.5%.
Standard supply form is 3.0 mm × 1000 mm × 2000 mm in the annealed M condition with a smooth bright surface. Cut-to-size and custom dimensions are available.

Standard delivery condition: M (annealed). Hard (Y) and hot-rolled (R) conditions available on request.
Corrosion Resistance
Excellent resistance: seawater and marine atmospheres, chloride brines, nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid, food-grade organic acids, dilute alkali at ambient temperature, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and bleach solutions, pharmaceutical and food-contact media. Seawater corrosion rate <0.001 mm/year; no pitting or crevice corrosion.
Incompatible media: hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric and phosphoric acids, anhydrous dry chlorine, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.
Applications of 3.0mm TA1 Titanium Sheet
At 3.0 mm, Grade 1 titanium provides a practical structural panel for fabricated assemblies requiring corrosion immunity combined with moderate structural performance:
- Heavy-duty anti-corrosion equipment — heat exchanger plate blanks for aggressive coolant circuits, reaction vessel liner sheets, distributor plates and sieve trays in corrosive chemical service, and electrochemical cell structural panels in chloride-rich electrolytes where stainless steel fails rapidly.
- Marine accessories and ship components — propeller shaft sealing rings, sea-chest gratings, rudder wear plates, inlet filter frames, and anti-fouling structural facings on vessels and offshore platforms operating in continuous seawater immersion service.
- Precision engineering projects — machined-to-tolerance bases, precision-ground tooling components, and non-magnetic structural frames for analytical instruments, semiconductor equipment, and medical imaging systems requiring certified non-magnetic metallic construction.
- Desalination and water treatment plant — titanium plate heat exchanger blanks, evaporator effect shells, and brackish-water pump casing liners in multi-effect distillation and reverse-osmosis desalination facilities.
- Electrochemical electrode substrates — thicker anode substrate blanks for industrial electroplating lines, anodising racks, and electrolytic metal recovery systems operating at moderate current densities.
Grade Selection: TA1 vs TA2 at 3.0mm
| Parameter | TA1 (Grade 1) | TA2 (Grade 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength (Rm) | 240–340 MPa | 345–450 MPa |
| Elongation (δ₅) | ≥30% (superior cold formability) | ≥20% |
| Cold forming | Best — direct deep drawing, tight bends | Good — moderate radii preferred |
| Applications | Complex formed parts, medical, precision structures | General chemical equipment, structural plate |
| Cost | Slightly higher | More economical at equivalent thickness |
Choose TA1 for 3.0mm applications where complex cold forming, non-magnetic certification, or implant-compatible biocompatibility is required; choose TA2 for general structural anti-corrosion duty where higher strength is more valuable than maximum ductility.
Fabrication Guidelines
Cold forming: Very good — 90° bending, press-brake forming, and roll forming without pre-heating. Heavy draws may benefit from intermediate anneal at 670–720 °C after accumulated cold work exceeds 40–50%.
Welding: GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler is standard. Argon trailing shield, back-purge, and tent or chamber shielding are essential for 3.0mm butt welds to prevent heat-affected zone embrittlement. Weld joint factor of 1.0 achievable with proper procedure qualification.
Machining: Carbide tooling, 30–60 m/min cutting speed, aggressive feed, continuous flood coolant. Titanium’s low thermal conductivity concentrates heat at the cutting edge — tool life management is important.
Hot working: Processing temperature 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon atmosphere; mandatory inert gas protection to prevent high-temperature oxygen absorption and hydrogen embrittlement.
Thermal treatment: Anneal at 670–720 °C, 30–120 min, air cool, vacuum or inert atmosphere. Commercially pure titanium cannot be strengthened by heat treatment.
Key Usage Precautions
- Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit prolonged contact with HF or any fluoride-bearing liquid; oxide film failure leads to rapid through-wall corrosion.
- High-temperature processing and welding: Must be performed under inert gas (argon) protection throughout; atmospheric oxygen or hydrogen causes embrittlement of the heat-affected zone.
- Large-deformation cold working: Intermediate annealing is required after heavy cold work to restore ductility and prevent workpiece cracking.
- Medical-grade hydrogen control: Hydrogen content must be strictly controlled to meet implant standards (ISO 5832-2 or equivalent); specify low-H lots when ordering for implant applications.
- Galvanic isolation: When assembling titanium sheet with carbon steel structural members, insulating gaskets or isolation tape must be fitted at all contact points to prevent galvanic corrosion of the steel.
