0.5mm Grade1/TA1 Pure Titanium Sheet
Overview
The 0.5mm Grade1/TA1 pure titanium sheet is a premium cold-rolled ultra-thin titanium product engineered for precision forming applications where maximum ductility, zero magnetism, and chemical inertness are mandatory. Manufactured from commercially pure Grade 1 titanium (TA1 per GB/T 3620.1, equivalent to ASTM Grade 1 / UNS R50250), this sheet carries titanium content above 99.5% with rigorously controlled interstitial elements, delivering the softest and most formable titanium grade commercially available.
The standard configuration — 0.5 mm thickness × 1000 mm width × 2000 mm length, supplied in the annealed M condition with a smooth bright surface — provides a ready-to-use blank for precision stamping, deep drawing, and thin-shell component fabrication. Cut-to-size and custom sheet dimensions are available for customers who require direct-to-press stock without further shearing.
Material Specification and Chemical Composition
The 0.5mm TA1 sheet conforms to GB/T 3621-2007 and ASTM B265, the two principal international standards governing titanium strip, sheet, and plate. Chemical composition is held within the following limits:
| Element | Ti (base) | Fe | O | C | N | H | Other (total) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Requirement | ≥99.5% | ≤0.20% | ≤0.18% | ≤0.08% | ≤0.03% | ≤0.015% | ≤0.40% |
The microstructure in the annealed condition consists of equiaxed alpha phase in a close-packed hexagonal arrangement, with negligible intergranular beta phase and no hardening precipitates. This fully recrystallized state ensures the outstanding plasticity that characterises Grade 1 titanium.

Standard delivery condition: M (annealed). Hard (Y) and hot-rolled (R) conditions available on request.
Corrosion Resistance
Grade 1 titanium derives its corrosion immunity from a spontaneously regenerating TiO₂ passive surface oxide, stable across an exceptionally wide range of chemical environments:
Excellent resistance: seawater, salt spray, chloride solutions, nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid and other organic acids, dilute alkalis at ambient temperature, humid industrial atmospheres, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite solutions, food and pharmaceutical contact media. Corrosion rate in seawater is below 0.001 mm/year with no pitting or crevice attack.
Incompatible media (avoid): hydrofluoric acid (HF), hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, anhydrous dry chlorine gas, hot fuming nitric acid, molten strong alkalis.
Applications of 0.5mm TA1 Titanium Sheet
The combination of ultra-thin gauge, exceptional plasticity, and corrosion resistance makes the 0.5mm TA1 sheet the preferred substrate for:
- Precision stamping and deep-drawn thin-shell parts — electronic device housings, watch cases, decorative hardware, and aerospace non-structural skins where low weight and fine formability are required.
- Medical and surgical accessories — implant-adjacent shields, surgical instrument thin components, and MRI-compatible device parts where non-magnetism and biocompatibility (USP Class VI / ISO 10993) are mandatory.
- Electrochemical and electrolytic equipment — current distributor foils, anode substrates, and diaphragm blanks in chlor-alkali and water electrolysis cells where corrosion resistance in chloride-rich electrolytes is critical.
- Chemical processing thin-walled liners — corrosion-resistant linings bonded to structural backings in pharmaceutical reactors, heat exchangers, and food-grade vessels.
- Decorative and architectural cladding — interior and exterior panels requiring lightweight, tarnish-free, non-magnetic metal surface with the characteristic titanium lustre.
Fabrication Guidelines
Cold forming: Outstanding — single-pass cold deformation ≥40%, direct 90° bend, deep drawing and spinning without cracking. Intermediate annealing (670–720 °C, 30–120 min, air cool) restores full ductility after heavy work-hardening.
Welding: Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG) with ER Ti-1 filler wire. Full argon shielding of the weld pool and root is mandatory to prevent oxygen/hydrogen pick-up. Completed welds exhibit corrosion resistance and ductility approaching base metal.
Machining: Grade 1 titanium is soft and tends to built-up edge on cutting tools; use dedicated titanium-grade tooling, low cutting speeds, heavy feeds, and copious coolant.
Hot working: Processing temperature 800–900 °C under vacuum or argon atmosphere; mandatory inert gas protection to prevent high-temperature oxygen absorption and hydrogen embrittlement.
Thermal processing: Anneal at 670–720 °C under vacuum or inert atmosphere to avoid oxidation scaling; air-cool after soaking 30–120 minutes depending on stack thickness.
Grade Selection: TA1 vs TA2
| Parameter | TA1 (Grade 1) — this product | TA2 (Grade 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Purity / impurity level | Higher purity, lower impurities | Slightly higher impurities |
| Tensile strength (Rm) | 240–340 MPa | 345–450 MPa |
| Elongation (δ₅) | ≥30% — best cold formability | ≥20% |
| Cold forming | Optimal — deep drawing, complex sheet metal, tight bends | Good — standard forming, moderate radii |
| Primary applications | Thin-plate deep drawing, medical implants, thin-walled desalination parts, precision non-magnetic components | General chemical equipment, load-bearing thick-plate structures, conventional corrosion-resistant shells |
| Cost | Slightly higher | More cost-effective |
Key Usage Precautions
- Fluorine-containing media: Prohibit prolonged contact with HF or any fluoride-bearing liquid; oxide film failure leads to rapid through-wall corrosion.
- High-temperature processing and welding: Must be performed under inert gas (argon) protection throughout; atmospheric oxygen or hydrogen causes embrittlement of the heat-affected zone.
- Large-deformation cold working: Intermediate annealing is required after heavy cold work to restore ductility and prevent workpiece cracking.
- Medical-grade hydrogen control: Hydrogen content must be strictly controlled to meet implant standards (ISO 5832-2 or equivalent); specify low-H lots when ordering for implant applications.
- Galvanic isolation: When assembling titanium sheet with carbon steel structural members, insulating gaskets or isolation tape must be fitted at all contact points to prevent galvanic corrosion of the steel.
